About this place
Step past the noren curtain of Sushinari, located just a short walk from To-ji Temple's Keiga-mon Gate, and an unadorned, calming space opens up before you. While the surroundings are delightfully understated, the generous portions and the thickness of the fish immediately catch the eye. The lunchtime kaisendon is especially popular, crowned with a lavish spread of seafood including sweet prawn and paired with a warm, dashi-rich red miso soup for a thoroughly satisfying meal.
Beyond seafood rice bowls, the menu offers a diverse selection of nigiri and roll sushi. Options include 8-piece nigiri assortments ranging up to the deluxe set, a 3-variety platter featuring cuts like tuna and salmon, and the all-tuna "Maguro-Bakkari" combination of nigiri and a hand roll. Slender hosomaki rolls—such as tuna, salmon, and fragrant eel with crisp cucumber—round out the selection alongside prawn pressed sushi and sashimi platters, letting diners tailor the spread to their liking.
Operated single-handedly by the master, the dining room maintains an unhurried, gentle tempo, where thoughtful attentiveness makes a meal on the road feel comfortable and grounded. It suits a relaxed midday lunch just as naturally as an evening dinner enjoyed over beer or sake. Payment is cash only, making it wise to prepare yen beforehand when planning a visit around To-ji Temple.
